Miguelito has been attending the local Dominican school for two years. Due to his inability to speak Spanish, some of the fundamentals have been overlooked. At times the Haitian parents will complain that the Dominican instructors do not have patience for the Haitian students. With politics and feelings aside, Miguelito is now in a place where he can participate in his own education and advance in the skills that will be meaningful for him. This education is a start and certainly will not be enough to pull our refugee students out of their tailspin towards perpetuating poverty and hunger but it is a beginning. We will take that for now.
